What is a food wrap?

A food wrap, also called a beeswax wrap or a bee's wrap, is an eco-friendly replacement for plastic cling and aluminium foil. Food wraps are ideal for storing leftover food and for covering bowls.

A food wrap is made of (organic) cotton fabric with a layer on top that makes the food wrap mouldable. In the original beeswax wrap this layer is made of beeswax, tree resin and jojoba oil and for the vegan food wrap the beeswax has been replaced by candelilla wax.

Food wraps are an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic cling film

Cling film is made of plastic and plastic often contains harmful chemicals that you do not want near your food. So if you don't want chemicals leaking in your food when you cover your food with plastic wrap choose to use a vegan beeswax wrap.

How to use a beeswax wrap?

The warmth of your hands makes the food wrap soft and the slightly sticky structure of the vegan beeswax wrap makes it easy to mould around a container or food. The food wrap ensures that your food stays fresh longer.

After use, you can easily clean a beeswax cloth with a little cold water and a mild soap. Be careful not to use warm water, as the beeswax or candelilla wax will melt and you will no longer be able to use the food wrap.

What different types of food wraps are there?

There are many different food wraps in different prints and sizes. The main difference is in the wax that is used. The original beeswax wrap is, as the name suggests, made with beeswax and the vegan food wrap is made with candelilla wax and is therefore suitable for vegans.

There are different sizes suitable for different food wrapping tasks and you have, for example, food wraps with a button to easily pack a sandwich or food wraps shaped like a bag. You can also buy a large roll and cut the food wraps to your desired size.
